Junior Rugby Season Overview
We welcome new players, so please reach out if you are interested in playing this season.
- Duration: The Junior Rugby Season runs over the school Terms 2 and 3 from May to September, with a handful of 7’s Competitions held in July (Bunbury Barbarians NAIDOC 7s), October (Albany 7s) and November (Southern Lions 7s). 
- Age Groups: U13s to U17s for boys and girls. New players welcome. 
- Games: Games are played on Saturdays between Perth and the South West. Transport available for away games. 
- Training: Train at Hay Park, Bunbury on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Albany players train with the team (one hour prior) on game days. 
- Communication: Team communications are via the Heja app for parents and players. Registered players can reach out to us for the access code to group. 
Season Fixtures
- Fixtures are available via Rugby WA’s website and RugbyXplorer. 
Season Training
- We train at Hay Park, Bunbury on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Players based in Albany are not required to attend. 
Transportation
- Club Support: Subsidised bus for travelling to games in Perth from Australind and Bunbury. Car pooling arrangements from Albany and Busselton. 
- Family Initiative: Carpool arrangements for training sessions and game days. We have a Facebook Chat for families in the Busselton region to carpool to training. Please reach out to us for access to the group. 
Uniform
- Provided: New players will receive club shorts. A South West Spirit rugby jersey is provided to all players on game day, this must be returned to the Team Manager at the end of game. 
- Required: Each player needs to provide their own football boots, navy blue football socks and mouthguard (compulsory at training and games). Headgear is optional, however recommended for players. 
Age Group Guidelines
- Player Born 2012 - Under 13 
- Player Born 2011 - Under 14 Boys, Under 15 Girls 
- Player Born 2010 - Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Girls 
- Player Born 2009 - Under 16 Boys, Under 17 Girls (Dispensation a possibility for this age group) 
A junior age rugby player must be younger than the age group in which he / she is playing as of the 1st of January of the playing year. For example - A player in the Under 15's team in 2025 must have been 14 years (or younger) of age on the 1st January 2025.
